Continuing on from part one, we look at the next five Top Time Management Tips:
6. Establish new habits – We can be our own worst enemy when it comes to being distracted! This can be noted as the biggest time stealing problem in offices. Wasting time chatting, taking too many coffee breaks, trawling the internet and Facebook, attending every email as it comes instead of attending to them in set time blocks all threaten your task flow productivity. Instead, switch off the inbox bell that informs you an email has arrived, limit your coffee breaks to when a major task segment has been completed and guard against talking with other staff during task flow times. When you work, just do work!
7. Focus on one task only – The real power comes when you just focus on one task at a time until it is 100% complete before you move on to the next task. Really focus on the task like a surgeon doing brain surgery. It really does require your 100% focus! This takes practice but it is a great skill to learn and achieve!
8. Work fast – Work as fast as you can through the required task(s) without compromising quality and making mistakes.
9. Thoroughness is the key – Be dedicated to being as thorough as you can while maintaining your speed. Be committed to doing the task so accurately, you or anyone else will not need to revisit the task again to fix stuff-ups or mistakes. Ensure that everything is completed properly with no loose ends still untied.
10. Get better at time management – Always look for new ways to speed up any process, make a task more efficient and you more productive. Always ask ‘how can I get this done in less time, next time?’ What processes, checklist, forms and systems can be developed or improved to streamline the task for quicker/more accurate completion next time?
Practising efficient time management is the key to being a successful property manager, having a healthy mind and adding miles to your self-confidence and worth to your employer or department.
Don’t be the one that says they are too busy to get better at time management!
